How To Add Payment Utilities To Your Website.

Mpesa is the world’s leading mobile transfer service and is one of the most innovative solutions to ever come out of Africa, specifically Kenya. Mobile payments are here to stay and with Kenya leading the world in offering convenient mobile money services not having them on your website is definitely not going to do any good to your website. The continual rise in internet use, good connectivity and penetration has made e-commerce in Kenya an important vehicle to generating wealth. Just a few years ago Kenya had to contend with international payment and mobile money transfer services such as Paypal that offered little or no option of withdrawing money locally. But with inventions such as Mpesa businesses are using mobile payments to transact online via payment gateways.

So if you are looking for an online payment solution to incorporate into your website you need to consider using a platform/service/gateway that enables your customers to not only pay with international money transfer services such as Visa, Paypal or Mastercard but also have the option to pay through Mpesa. In fact, the truth is mobile money services is not an option in Kenya, with Lipa na Mpesa in almost every convenient store, you need to make it a priority for your website. When sourcing for an online payment gateway my advice is that you look out for good local Kenyan company that offers you an integration of both local and international money transfer solutions ensuring all your customers are well catered for.

A good example is JamboPay, they are the online payment giants who have dominated East African market with their innovative approach to offering tailored payment services. I don’t want to turn this article into a JamboPay review so I’m gonna just leave it at that, but I strongly suggest considering them when setting up your e-commerce website. Pesapal is also another really good payment solution provider that operates in the country; they offer almost similar services to JamboPay. The main differentiator between the two is that with Pesapal has a wider global presence and you can pay through your Pesapal wallet which you create on their website. I recommend checking them both and seeing which one works best for you. I&M bank have their WebPay E-commerce payment services you can find out more here. I think it worth noting that I&M bank was the first bank in Kenya and East Africa to launch an E-commerce online payment service and have been awarded an e-commerce acquiring licencese by Visa International and Mastercard becoming the first bank in this region to qualify to offer this service.

Okay so you have selected a good payment gateway for your website, so what next? You need will need to set it up on your website.
